Five sinister figures, dressed in black suits with authentically painted glowing bones, wearing masks made of skulls, take off their cloaks and begin to dance at an accelerating pace - while other participants in the same outfit join them. Imagine a dark spring night in Spain, a torchlight procession, the solemn sound of drums and skeletons with braids dancing among the crowd - and you will understand why Dance of Death refers to the spectacles that are remembered for a lifetime.
Dance of Death - a traditional medieval European image, a symbol of the frailty of life and the inevitability of death - but at the same time mockery of her: after all, the soul is immortal. In the context of Easter, this dance means the clouds of fate thickening over Jesus, which He is destined to dispel with his triumphant Resurrection. Hundreds of tourists come to Vergès every year to watch the action, and many return again and again. Dance of Death on the night of Holy Thursday - the best reminder that there are more important things in the world than routine and career: life, faith, soul.
