Abandoned houses from childhood fascinate us, attract with their unusual, sometimes chilling story. Troy Paiva has been photographing such places in America for 40 years. Failed parks, ominous wastelands, destroyed hotels and hundreds of other, sometimes very strange, abandoned places in the cycle of night photos “Lost America”.

Since the 70s, Troy Paiva has been traveling the deserted roads of America and photographing abandoned amusement parks, aircraft cemeteries, hotels, combining everything in the Lost America cycle. Since 1989, Troy has been photographing at night, by the light of the moon. He came to the conclusion, sitting on one of the night photo lessons, that the atmosphere of ghost towns and abandoned wastelands is best captured at night.

Many of the objects that Troy Paiva photographed have already been erased from the face of the Earth: destroyed, burned, or simply swept out by the sand in the desert. He uses his own special flash technique, which is adopted by many photographers, both hobbyists and professionals. Troy's photos have been published in many magazines, as well as in two monographs, one of which - "Night vision" in 2008 - received a prestigious award.

“Many of the abandoned places I shoot are really dangerous. Usually the stories of these places are quite funny, and the photographs provoke lively, humorous discussions, but you need to be guided by common sense and intuition when working in such places. It’s not very pleasant to fall through the rotten floor in an abandoned house 50 miles from civilization,”Troy Paiva shares his impressions.
