To pray and ask the Lord God and his saints for salvation, forgiveness, recovery, repose of the soul and other mercies, believers go to church or church in order to light a candle. And in Mexico, the order is completely different. However, this is about Exvotos, since Retablos pictures are usually more refined and even pretentious. These works are not signed by the artists, but they always depict the misfortune that happened to the "petitioner", the patron saint to whom the request is made, and, in fact, the briefly described situation and its happy decision, for which they thank the patron saint.
It is curious to read these very stories. So, in addition to the most common, everyday cases like a sick or missing pet, family troubles, illnesses and financial difficulties, naive people describe completely fantastic situations. So, someone thanks his intercessor for saving him from alien abduction, or from an attack by vampires, or from death with a scythe.
Since there are people who order such thanks to patrons, artists who carry out orders, then there are collectors of this curious work. It is thanks to these collectors that we can see what the notorious Retablos & Exvotos look like.
