The works of the American artist Megan Coyle are often mistaken for paintings, although in fact, the artist does not need paints and a brush to create them. Instead, the girl arms herself with scissors and glue, takes piles of magazines and turns them into collages of a wide variety of topics.
It is no coincidence that many people confuse Megan Coyle's collages with paintings: in college, the girl studied painting, which had a strong influence on her future activities. The author does not just glue colored pieces of paper onto the base - she "draws" with them, applying them to the canvas, like strokes of paint. Among her works are landscapes, images of animals, but most of all Megan loves to work on portraits of people.
At the beginning of the work, Megan makes a sketch of the future work. Then the search for material begins: the girl leafs through magazine pages for hours until she finds images of the desired shades. After that, scissors and glue are used. Megan covers the finished work with a transparent varnish to protect it from fading. The author can work on one collage from two days to several weeks.
The work of Vincent van Gogh had a huge influence on the author's work: Megan believes that her collages, with an emphasis on bright colors and clear strokes (in her case, paper particles) have much in common with the works of the Impressionists. The artist also admires the work of Gerhard Richter.
Megan Coyle was born in Alexandria, Virginia, USA. She began to show interest in drawing as a child, but later decided to become a writer. However, it did not work out with writing, but the craving for painting turned out to be stronger. While studying art at Elon University, Meghan tried to combine painting and collage, and then completely switched to creating collages. The author has already had several exhibitions in Washington (Smithsonian Ripley Center, Art League Gallery, Nicholas Colasanto Center, the Fisher Gallery).
