What new can be brought to such an ancient sphere of arts and crafts as handicrafts? The search for themes, forms and, most importantly, materials does not stop. Artist Adrienne antonson from Seattle, she found both an unusual theme and non-standard material: she makes insect figurines out of … human hair.
Both hair and insects are not at all as simple as we used to think. In distant primitive times, a person was used to seeing in creeping insects and cockroaches the personification of the ancient, chthonic forces of the Earth, its mysterious power - and at the same time the reflection of death. Hair, on the other hand, is a favorite object of primitive sympathetic magic, because, according to legends, they are in a constant mystical connection with a person (which is why, say, a voodoo doll must be stuffed with a little hair belonging to the target person). That is why the combination of these meaning-laden archetypes looks somewhat intimidating for a modern person.
However, if you think about it, there is nothing wrong with these unusual insects. The texture of human hair, deliberately preserved and emphasized by the artist, immediately attracts attention. The use of such material is really interesting and promising. Although graphics using hair already exist, and have even been described by us, they are quite different from what does Adrienne antonson.
Of course, the search for new materials without a meaningful idea is a parasite on the body of art. However, there is such an idea in the artist's work, even if we do not take into account the psychological mechanism we have discovered. Adrienne antonson does not forget that she works with what she says is "the most direct and true" material. That is why her unusual insects are surprisingly similar to human hairstyles, and sometimes faces - and as if pouring part of a person's soul into the image of a six-legged booger. How can we not recall Franz Kafka's "The Metamorphosis"?
But let's not ascribe unnecessary social and philosophical ideas to the artist. It is enough that her works evoke a genuine response - isn't that the purpose of art?

Buddha statue made of dead insects
Many are afraid of living insects, some do not like them, and some admire them. Dead insects leave many indifferent, in some they cause disgust, and only certain individuals are ready for such a feat as creating a whole sculpture from dead beetles. Such a person was the 89-year-old Japanese man Inamura Yoneiji, who in six years "raised" a statue of the sacred Buddha from dead insects
Hair gold: original advertisement for hair care products
Girls' best friends are not gold and diamonds at all, but alternative jewelry, says the original ad. Gold necklaces and bracelets can be grown, so to speak, at home, there would be good shampoos and conditioners for hair care. “Because hair is your finest accessory,” reads the original ad's slogan that you can't argue with
"Precious" insects. Dew-covered insects in macro photography by David Chambon
We've probably never seen insects as beautiful as they are helpless as in David Chambon's macro photographs. The seasoned photo artist lives in the French town of Doubs in the Franche-Comté province, a five-minute drive from the national park, which is ideal for macro photography. There David Chambon prefers to meet the sunrises in order to seize the moment and take pictures of dragonflies, moths, grasshoppers, beetles and other insects in an unusual form
Avanos Hair Museum. Underground Hair Museum in Cappadocia
The world of collections and the "get-together" of collectors is wide and varied. So, in the world, probably, there is no such item that would not become an object for collecting in one form or another. And in Turkey, in the city of Avanos, in Cappadocia, there lives a potter named Chez Galip, who has a whole museum of … women's hair in the basement of his workshop. The number of multi-colored strands of different lengths totals more than 16,000 copies
Paintings made by insects. Unusual Debug Creativity
Talented, brilliant people, authors of incredible masterpieces admired by the whole world, are often called "a miracle of nature". But if you think about it, how many wonders nature conceals in itself, showing us only the tip of a giant iceberg? For example, a group of enthusiastic designers called Edhv took advantage of the wonders of nature, creating a selection of unusual paintings painted by
