Painter Mark Summers (Mark Summers) draws cartoons of celebrities - draws quite talentedly, but it would hardly be enough to become famous. From a number of caricaturists, the author first of all singles out the technique in which he works: instead of a pencil or a brush, Summers uses a knife with which he scratches lines on the canvas.

The technique used by Mark Summers is called the scratchboard. A board or sheet of paper is sequentially covered with lime and ink layers, then the author picks up a knife and scratches the top layer, removing the ink and exposing the white surface. Thus, if when creating a regular drawing everything starts with a white sheet, then in a scratchboard everything is the other way around: the artist "draws" on a black canvas with white lines. But the final drawing does not have to be black and white: when the main image is ready, the white "scratches" can be painted over with watercolors.

Among the heroes of Mark Summers' paintings are historical figures, Hollywood stars, and modern political leaders. According to the author, it takes him a whole day to create one human figure. But the artist does not like to show pictures "in the process": he says that a black canvas, in different places of which hands or heads appear, is not the most pleasant and interesting sight.
