Real street art should be not only aesthetic, but also utilitarian. After all, the streets of modern cities have turned into real landfills. And where utilities can't cope with these dumps, artists can try to cope. This is what the creative initiative with the name is designed for "Art in the Streets"announced Museum of Contemporary Art In Los Angeles.
Americans are an automobile nation. The number of cars per capita in the United States of America is much higher than in other countries. And therefore it is not surprising that some of the old cars find their rest not in special car dumps, but simply on the streets of cities. And as a result, these streets turn into real dumpsites.
This is the fight against this phenomenon and announced the Museum of Modern Art in Los Angeles. He invited all interested artists to use one of the cars abandoned on the street as a canvas, turning it from bulky waste into a real work of art. The Museum promised to exhibit the best of these works on its site.
This honor went to three cars: a 1963 ice cream truck painted by artist Mark Machado, a 1960 Cadillac Coupe de Ville designed by Angelino Kenny Scharf, and a 1966 Buick Special. year by the American pop artist Keith Haring. Compare these works and their message to Damien Hirst's purely commercial Audi A1.
This exhibition will run on the site of the Museum of Modern Art until August 18 this year. After that date, the cars will be returned to the streets from which they were taken, to many other abandoned cars, painted by artists, who have turned from cancerous tumors of city streets into their real decoration, who have transformed dirty streets into open-air museums.
