American artist Adam Caldwell is a lover of complex images and ambiguous interpretations. His surreal collages force viewers to stare at the whimsical canvas of the image for a long time before they finally realize that they like what they see.

The artist received his specialized education at the California College of Art, and then, realizing that he could not do commercial painting with due pleasure, began teaching at one of the universities of San Francisco. While still a student, Adam mastered the art of collage. Collages, only slightly different, he creates today. His extraordinary painting combines both adherence to classical canons and absolute "artistic freethinking". Photorealism, surrealism, pompous imagery of retro advertising … His paintings contain everything, but they do not look vulgar at all.

Caldwell's imagery is complex. The fascination and at the same time ruthlessness of the picture completely discourage the viewer. The artist seems to reflect the state of mind of some abstract, contemporary personality: there is excessive impulsiveness, and libidinal drives, and loneliness.

Another unusual artist, who writes in a rather extravagant manner, is the Dane John Reuss. Someone sees in his works echoes of impressionism and surrealism, but the artist himself is sure that his work is largely inspired by expressionism. “My works,” says John, “are a kind of eclectic mixture of styles and trends, but as for the technique … Rather, it is a symbiosis of classical and modern painting and, of course, experiments”.
