The tale of how the left-hander shod a flea has long become a talk of the town about craftsmen with golden hands who cope with the most difficult tasks better than any English mechanic. And here Andrey Martynyuk, a talented woodcarver from Belarus, with the mysterious "nymphozoria" may not be able to cope, but watch makes such that no Swiss craftsmen dreamed of!
Clock - a symbol of time and constant movement - often attracts artists, all kinds of mechanisms are not invented by the masters in order to emphasize their special attitude to the transience of life. On our website Kulturologiya.ru we have already written about "watches with a Russian soul" made by the Russian master Yuri Firsanov, Andrei Martynyuk's watches are in many ways similar to the products of their Slavic colleague. Undoubtedly, the wooden mechanisms of the Belarusian, created without a single metal part, also have a soul and are imbued with human warmth.
Andrei Martynyuk grew up from childhood as a talented child, he loved to draw. Having matured, he received an engineering education, but his passion for wood carving turned out to be stronger than his love for the profession. While studying carving, he once heard from his teacher that the pinnacle of carpentry is a wooden clock, and set out to create one. True, it took him four long years to assemble the first model.
At first, Andrei Martynyuk tried to copy the metal mechanism, but soon realized that it was impossible to achieve the exact time in this case. Firstly, wood is a softer material than metal, and, secondly, moisture spoils the details. As a result of painstaking work, the master learned how to make watch movements, the dimensions of the teeth of the gears of which are much larger than their traditional counterparts, in addition, he impregnates the wood with a special solution that makes it more resistant to moisture.
Today it takes Andrei Martynyuk about six months to create a wooden clock. The master willingly sells his works, the cost of the watch is about $ 500, which, of course, is not enough to support a family. The watchmaker himself admits that the payment is incommensurate with the efforts that are required to create such mechanisms, but he feels great joy when his creations become a part of someone's life. By the way, in order to achieve Swiss precision from Belarusian watches, Andrei Martynyuk has to use up to 15 types of different woods to create each movement.
