Today, 11 SeptemberAmerica is reliving the most important date in its recent history: 9/11/2001. The terrorist attack, which took place exactly ten years ago, became an event of legendary significance; it left a memory of itself in articles, books, films, in the hearts of hundreds of millions of people and in the tombstones of tens of thousands. What brought 10 years with TOGO 11 September to America - we will remember today too.
For several days, the Americans have been making a pilgrimage to the places where the terrorist attacks left their mark - the most important of them, of course, is the site of the fall of the World Trade Center towers. Here, in the center of New York, contrary to the commercial logic of the United States, nothing was built: two square memorials remained, like black hollows in the place of torn teeth. Black granite fountains surrounded by trees at night shoot two colossal pillars of light into the sky: like two memorial candles lit over America.
Among the thousands of people killed in the wreckage of the World Trade Center were not only Americans. This photo shows a pedestal erected by Vladimir Gavryushin at the Vilnius cemetery in memory of his daughter, Elena. He cannot visit the place of her death - and, probably, does not want to: it is difficult to imagine what he experienced on September 11, when the announcers announced the lists of survivors on TV, and Elena Gavryushina was not among them.
Another memorial in another, also cult place for Americans - the Pentagon. The stronghold of American intelligence was also hit on September 11, as if sweeping aside suspicions that the attacks were carried out by the secret services. In memory of the dead passengers of the suicide plane, 184 luminous monuments were erected near the Pentagon.
But the attacks did not affect buildings the most, but people. We wrote about tens of thousands of victims for a reason: September 11 pushed America to more and more victims. The famous photograph of 12-year-old Stevie, taken on August 28, 2001, within the walls of his native school, can be a metaphor for this moral wound. Nearby is Stephen Culver, a 23-year-old member of the 159th Brigade, on vacation after a mission in Kandahar. They are one and the same person. Who could he have become if there were no terrorist attacks? What would the world and America be like without 9/11? We will never know.

On June 21, the famous theater and film actor Valery Zolotukhin could have turned 77 years old, but 5 years ago he passed away. Russia 200 Years Later: Predictions of the Future on Postcards 1914
Perhaps everyone at least once in his life wanted to know his future. And this is quite normal. In 1914, the Einem chocolate factory (today's Red October), together with chocolates, released a series of postcards with predictions of what Moscow would look like in 200 and even 300 years. Today it is quite amusing to consider the guesses of people who lived a century ago. Some ideas about the future cause a grin, while others have already come true
