Despite the fact that e-mail will deliver a message to the addressee in a matter of minutes, many still cherish a fondness for the good old "paper" letters, handwritten and sealed in a stamped envelope. It is believed that such a message is much warmer and more emotional, since it stores the sender's energy, a part of his soul. This is probably why the artist Mark Powel prefers to paint portraits of people on old envelopes rather than any other paper. Elderly men and women, ancient gray-haired and gray-bearded old men, surprised, frightened, shocked, upset, gloomy, tired - all kinds of people are drawn by Mark Powell's hand on envelopes in which someone once wrote certain lines to someone. What was in them is unknown, but the realization that waves of various emotions passed through the paper make the drawn people a little closer to the real people.
By the way, not every envelope in which a letter was sent and received is suitable for this type of creativity. Mark Powell selects for himself only old, well-worn envelopes and paper mail bags, which, if not a hundred years old, then a little less. The artist is sure that the life experience that this paper is rich in adds to the portraits of emotionality, life, mood, and that is why they get them exclusively "real", sincere, without a gram of falseness and pretense. For this, his work is loved by fans and connoisseurs of non-standard art.
The stamps and pieces of sealing wax remaining on the surface, handwritten words and numbers are like greetings from the past that each of us meets from time to time. A slightly sad, but in its own way wonderful art project by Mark Powell is unlikely to leave anyone indifferent.
