“In search of a connection between geography, anatomy and botany, I combined visual map elements, anatomical illustrations and natural shapes to explore the themes of travel, salvation and time,” Shannon, also known as Selflesh, recounts her work. She likes to find relationships between things that seem incompatible. The artist speaks of an obvious connection between map elements and anatomical shapes: the mapped highways, streets and rivers are very similar to veins and arteries, and the symbols of cities become acupuncture points.
The artist claims that she draws inspiration for most of her works from nature. Therefore, she travels a lot and spends a lot of time studying and photographing the smallest details of nature. Not limited to photography, Shannon also sketches certain types of plants that he sees on his travels and finds interesting. In addition, the girl's creativity was not without the influence of books. Among her favorite authors, she names Carl Gustav Jung, Henry Miller, Joseph Campbell, Eckhart Tole.
