It is difficult to talk about the absolute power of pure happiness, about the irrepressible fun of children during the game, overflowing with their imagination. It's hard to remember all this, becoming a child again, shedding the weight of growing up and smiling carefree. Who among us in childhood did not dream of soaring in the air, did not jump on tiptoes, pretending to fly? Who has not imagined himself Superman, has not flown on an airplane carpet and set off to conquer space? Jan Von Holleben tried to recreate our childhood dreams by creating a series of photographs “Dreams of Flying”, that is, “Dreams of flying”.
In his photo series, von Holleben captures the very essence of childhood irresistibility. By placing his subjects on the ground and photographing them from above, he not only shows creativity and a sense of perspective, but also arranges the triumph of the central idea of the project: when you are a child, you can do whatever you believe in. Remember your own childhood: blue blankets easily become the sea, trees - the jungle, and any wand you find becomes magic.
Based on famous fairy tales and legendary superheroes, Jan von Holleben hired local children from his native southern Germany to shoot. The project started in 2002, and since that time the author has won many international awards, which, in general, is not surprising. Vivid and overflowing with fun, his photographs evoke not so much sadness for a bygone childhood, as they are a triumph of human imagination and fantasy.
Here is what the author himself says about his work: “The key to these images is playfulness. I tried to surprise people with a visual trick that they did not expect, but thanks to which I was able to understand how easy it was to do all this. Indeed, looking at von Holleben's photographs, one begins to believe that everything in this life is simple and possible. Even flying.
