Even the most skillful and recognized masters of their craft sometimes get bored, and they decide to do something else in order to diversify their activities. Take Paul Timman. The famous and very successful tattoo artist left his clients' arms, backs and other parts of the body for a while to practice tattooing … on dishes.
The idea originally came from Caroline Pople and Dave Harding, the founders of Ink Dish. They admit that at some point they noticed one drawback in all the shops selling dishes: there were no "cool" plates. Determined to fix this problem as soon as possible, Caroline and Dave turned to Paul Timman for help. Why the tattoo master was chosen for the design of the dishes remains a mystery, but Paul coped with the task brilliantly.
A tattoo artist always remains a tattoo artist, so it is not surprising that the traditional Japanese iretsumi tattoo style was chosen for the first line of dishes. As a result, porcelain plates and cups were adorned with ink-blue images of Japanese koi carp, dragons and cherry blossoms. The experiment was successful, and after the first Irezumi line, two more were born: Tribal Lines and Cherry Ink.
Of course, Paul Timman does not apply ink patterns directly to the dishes - this is technically impossible. The master develops the design - as if it were an ordinary tattoo, and then with the help of certain technologies the drawing is transferred to a plate. So, in terms of their qualities, the dishes turn out to be the most ordinary: the main highlight lies in the unusual drawing and its author.
Paul Timman is one of the most famous tattoo artists in the world. The list of his clients includes such Hollywood celebrities as Ben Affleck, Angelina Jolie, Drew Barrymore. The wedding ring tattooed on Pamela Anderson's finger is also the work of Paul. Before taking up tattooing, Timman graduated from the Cleveland Institute of the Arts.
