Everybody knows Abdulmejid Chupalaev in Makhachkala. He is a minibus taxi driver and has been taking his passengers free of charge every Friday for two years. In the cabin of his car, there is a sign that says that on a holy day for all Muslims, travel is free for all passengers. And the residents of the city found how to thank this person.
When Abdulmejid Chupalaev, a resident of Makhachkala, was asked why he donates his daily wages once a week, he is surprised at this question and replies that “it is the duty of every Muslim believer to do people well.” For many passengers, free travel is a pleasant surprise, and people sincerely thank the driver.
However, driver Chupalaev's route 101 can be used not only on Fridays. If on other days a person has forgotten his wallet at home or he simply does not have money, he can take a minibus taxi for free.
“Money tomorrow. Today - sadaqa”, - you can often hear from the lips of this driver. Sadaka in Islam is called a blessing done in the name of Allah. And Abdulmejid Chupalaev believes that he really has something to thank God for. This 63-year-old man has suffered 2 strokes and 4 heart attacks in his life, but not only survived, but can talk, walk, drive a car and perform namaz - to live his usual life. “Allah does such things to me … I also have to,” the man is sure.
Once in an interview, Chupalaev said that the dream of his whole life is to make the Hajj - to go on a pilgrimage to Mecca. This interview came across the head of the Umra. Haj project, Fatima Sultanova, who provides free Hajj vouchers to the poor. A fundraising was announced and the Makhachkala residents raised the required amount in less than a day.
When Abdulmejid found out that in six months his dream would come true, he could not hold back his tears. Abdulmejid Chupalayev will go on a pilgrimage to Mecca in August 2018. In the meantime, he carries a ticket to Hajj - the largest religious pilgrimage in the world - with him and studying a book for pilgrims.
