Today's popular street art and classical painting are rapidly moving towards rapprochement - as evidenced by the successful exhibition of the Norwegian Martin Whatson entitled "The beauty of gray" (The Beauty of Gray). Watson's know-how is bright spots of paint over black and white stencils in the spirit of traditional painting and photography.
Exhibition The Beauty of Gray successfully held in a Paris gallery MSA … Along with the paintings, visitors have a chance to admire the first work, which marks Watson's appeal to sculpture: the austere figure of an angel in the Gothic spirit, whose wings sparkle with the trademark colorful "splashes".
Martin Watson treats traditional art and graffiti with equal respect. It is no coincidence that the exhibition draws attention to the "gray" - that is, to those works that give the artist a basis for further self-expression. According to Watson, the art of the new era should look like this.
Connoisseurs of art have long ceased to disdain the "underground" art of graffiti - which proves the success of such large-scale projects as Graffiti project at the Roskilde festival and the recent grandiose festival in Sao Paulo … Watson, who calls "the look of dilapidated buildings" among his sources of inspiration and works in vivid contrasts, throws another challenge to connoisseurs of more traditional art; and they, judging by the enthusiastic reviews, accept it with dignity.
