In early December, an expert from Italy, Silvano Vincheti, announced that Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, which is in one of the private collections in St. Petersburg, may not be the only version of this painting.
According to Vinchete, there is a hypothesis that the author of the canvas could be a genius from Tuscany. Moreover, he even found a lot of evidence of this.
The restorer de Serra told the public that it is likely that the painting from the northern capital of Russia could be painted both by the famous artist himself and by his apprentice.
But Vinci's specialist Carlo Pedretti said that there are some similarities between the painting from St. Petersburg and the preparatory sketch, which is currently kept in the Louvre. For example, it can be noted that the lines with which the upper lip was depicted are especially similar.
Today, the British publication pointed out that experts suggest that there are a large number of theories that say that there were a lot of such paintings. In addition, art critics are still arguing about the period of completion of the work.
At the very beginning of December, a scientist from France announced that "Mona Lisa" is a multi-layered work. Hidden on one of these layers is a real portrait of Lisa Gherardini. He said that he had found on the canvas an image of a large-headed woman, as well as an image of a lady in a mother-of-pearl headdress.
At the moment, it is generally accepted that this portrait was painted by an artist in the period from 1503 to 1505. It is also believed that the painting depicts the wife of a merchant from Florence who was selling silk. The full title of this painting is Portrait of Mrs. Lisa Giacondo.
