Painter Mike Davis (Mike Davis) is not one of those whose works evoke an unambiguously positive public opinion. Some admire his surrealistic works, others see in them only copies of paintings by Dali and Bosch, others believe that art is just an interpretation by some authors of the works of other masters. Be that as it may, Mike Davis is looking for his own style and, as a self-taught artist, does it quite well.
Since childhood, Mike Davis has shown an interest in painting: however, in those distant times, the heroes of his drawings were mainly monsters, robots and other similar creatures. As an adult, Mike did not give up his hobby, however, he began his creative career, according to the author himself, with a "scam": he got a job as a decorator in a theater, although in fact he had no idea what and how he would have to do … Nevertheless, the deception was not revealed: Mike quickly settled into a new place and successfully drew both the scenery for the performances and the costume sketches. And yet the author saw his vocation in another and in 1988 left the theater, becoming … a tattoo master.
The opening of the Everlasting Tattoo studio in San Francisco in 1992, according to Mike Davis, was an important milestone in his development as an artist. By applying drawings to human bodies, the author honed his skills and since 1999 began to seriously engage in painting. By this time, Mike had not received any art education, and improved his knowledge by studying the works of recognized masters. The greatest influence on his work was the work of the Flemish painters Jan van Eyck and Pieter Brueghel.
Despite the fact that the author is simultaneously engaged in painting and tattooing, the drawings of Davis the tattoo artist and Davis the artist are not at all similar to each other. It is easy to verify this by looking at examples. works the author from the tattoo studio.
