It took God seven days to create the Earth, but it took the Emir of Dubai five years to build artificial archipelago "The World" … Sheikh Mohammed came up with the idea of building 300 small islands, in general shape resembling the continents of our planet. Mir is located 4 kilometers from the coastline of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The project required 321 million cubic meters of sand and 31 million tons of rock, most of the materials were extracted from the Persian Gulf.
The project to build the world's largest artificial archipelago was launched 10 years ago, during the crisis years, there were periods of stagnation here, as in all other industries. However, by 2008, the bulk of the work was completed, and 70% of the islands were sold. It is assumed that the archipelago will become a place of elite recreation; only those to whom the developer company Nakheel sends invitations (50 pieces per year) can buy the islands. The list of buyers includes billionaires, large businessmen, as well as entire corporations (Dubai Multi Commodities, Turkey's MNG Holdings, Kleindienst Group). Celebrities also have personal islands, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie can boast of this.
Despite the fact that the spheres of influence in Mir are gradually being distributed, while the islands are empty, many buyers have announced quite ambitious projects. Thus, the Kleindienst Properties company bought six islands under the names Austria, Germany, Netherlands, St. Petersburg, Sweden and Switzerland to combine them into a single complex - the Heart of Europe. The developers of the artificial archipelago, the Nakheel corporation, promise to surprise the Coral Island resort, which will include 20 islands from the North American part of the World. Australia and New Zealand will also become a recreational area, with a total of 14 islands owned by the Kuwaiti company. It is interesting that the owners plan to build up "Finland", "Ireland", "Great Britain" and "Moscow" with luxurious villas and bars, organizing an elite vacation here.
By the way, the maximum cost of such an island reaches $ 38 million. The creators assure that such a large-scale construction will not harm the ecology of the Persian Gulf, and the archipelago itself in the near future will be indistinguishable from natural. It is planned that this man-made land will last for about eight centuries, which means that a miracle will be enough for our century.
