Ennedy mountain plateau - one of the wonders of nature. It is located in the heart of the Sahara Desert, and getting here is very problematic. The reason for this is both the lack of developed tourist routes and the thriving banditry among the local population, coupled with political unrest and poverty. Previously, it was possible to get to the Ennedy mountain range only by joining the nomadic caravans, now the daredevils successfully reach this oasis in off-road jeeps.

Travelers who have managed to overcome all difficulties are rewarded by nature in full. On the Ennedy plateau you can see unique natural formations - sandstone cliffs, the height of which reaches 120 m! In addition, here you can find other geological attractions: unique natural arches, as well as picturesque balancing stones. On the rocks there are many petroglyphs depicting people and animals that lived in this area thousands of years ago.

As befits a real oasis, there are several lakes on the plateau, lost among the rocks, which protect the reservoirs from the scorching sun. The most popular lake is Guelta d'Archei: tired travelers come here, as well as endless lines of camels. By the way, many crocodiles live in the lake: unlike their Nile five-meter counterparts, they do not have such an impressive size (animals grow about 2 m in length). Local residents respect aquatic inhabitants, since there is a belief that the killing of at least one crocodile will inevitably lead to the drying up of the lake.

By the way, the famous “arches” on the Ennedy plateau have long been a “tasty morsel” for climbers all over the world, but no one managed to conquer them. Only in 2010, a group of climbers led by Mark Sinnott managed to climb the highest arch.
