If somewhere in the universe there is a paradise where all the sweet tooth falls, then it should look exactly as in the representation of the Australian art duo Pip & Pop, which specializes in creating fabulous worlds in unrealistically bright neon colors. Authors and ideological inspirers of the art duo, artists Nicole Andrievich and Tanya Schultz (Nicole Andrijevic & Tanya Schultz), every day they work with kilograms of various sweets, as well as sparkles, beads, polymer clay and a host of other tools and decorations to bring these alien worlds into our real world - albeit in the form of installations. Since the most active consumers of sweets are, of course, children, artists draw inspiration and themes for their colorful sculptures and installations from children's fairy tales, cartoons, as well as video games and comics. However, along with the children's fairy-tale theme, Buddhist motifs are clearly traced in the art duo's work - it is very much reminiscent of the famous mandalas, ritual paintings made of crushed marble, which are laid out by Buddhist monks, learning patience, humility, and comprehending Zen. Whether the artists comprehend Zen or not, history is silent, but there is no doubt that they have achieved phenomenal success in the practice of creating fabulous worlds from sugar and sweets.
Tiny neon galaxies that are born thanks to the creativity of the art duo Pip & Pop not only give people smiles and charge them with positive energy, but also seem to illuminate the room in which the amazing installation is located with an unearthly light. And bright pink, purple, turquoise, lemon and orange colors give the fairy worlds a special girlish charm, which repeats the aesthetics of fairy tales and colorful children's dreams, and also resembles works in the style of Japanese pop art. This art bewitches, beckons and attracts, like the singing of sirens, and anyone who happens to be nearby will not be able to resist this fantastic spectacle. Probably, this is how Alice, who found herself in Wonderland, looked through the keyhole in such an attractive, but such inaccessible garden with rose bushes and cozy gazebos.
I suppose there is nothing strange in the fact that the exhibitions of sweet neon fairy tales, which Tanya Schultz and Nicole Andrievich arrange from time to time, are incredibly popular. And not only for children, but also for adults who will not miss the opportunity to once again plunge into childhood, remember their vivid magical dreams, favorite fairy tales and colorful cartoons.
