In the world of creativity, skulls have a special place. The works depicting them are usually quite ambiguous and cause conflicting reviews from viewers. Nevertheless, artists are not afraid of negative reviews and are happy to address this somewhat gloomy topic in their work. We've already written about jeweled skulls and even just about anything. And now here is another variation on the same theme - this time from James Hopkins.
The artist creates installations using various pieces of furniture and household items. At first glance, his work may cause some bewilderment and seem like a messy heap of unnecessary things. Cardboard boxes, wall clocks, musical instruments, bottles, vases with flowers … But in reality, everything is quite the opposite: in each of James's installations, objects are arranged in a strict order. Completely different one by one, all together they form a single picture, folding into an image of a skull.
"In my works, everything is not what it seems, because I use perspective and illusion. And depending on the point of view from which you look at the installation, you can see different things," says the artist and urges viewers not to perceive his work as something negative and disgusting. On the contrary, the skulls in his work are a symbol of the triumph of life.
James Hopkins is a British artist. Born 1976 in Stockport, he currently lives and works in two locations - London and Guernsey.
James is fond of creating installations, among which, of course, not only images of skulls. He experiments with furniture, mirrors, musical instruments and paper. The author's works have been shown at exhibitions in Rome, London, Paris, New York, Lisbon, Brussels, Hamburg, Moscow and other cities of the world. Perspective sculptures by James Hopkins
How can you describe the items in the image above? On one part of it, of course, there are the well-known and beloved characters of the cartoon "Tom and Jerry". On the second half there are incomprehensible objects, randomly laid out on the table. Now imagine that both of these images are actually photographs of the same sculpture, only from different points of view. Hard to believe, right? "Perspective is a great thing," says James Hopkins, author of extraordinary works
