Similar to photographs, redrawn in a peculiar manner, or to ripped frames from films, turned into paintings, portraits of an American artist Michael Shapcott full of passion, emotions and bright colors. They not only inspire - they fascinate the viewer. And there is something to bewitch. The main focus of many portraits, and the artist draws them very often, is placed on the eyes. Evil, sad, angry, naive and wide-open, full of unbearable pain and God knows what other emotions - this cannot be taken away from the artist's paintings. The attentive viewer will see that in many of the works of this painter, a combination of elements of illustration and classical painting can be traced. And all because Michael originally studied illustration, but when he realized that it was painting that attracted him more, he transferred to the fine arts class at Paier College of Art. He began to draw in his earliest childhood, so the young artist had no problems with self-identification, and he groped his creative path quite quickly.
Moving away from illustration as a genre, Michael Shapcott, however, did not abandon the skills acquired in college, and masterfully uses elements of illustration in painting. So, before starting to paint his paintings, he outlines the contours of the future image with graphite, and then paints them with oil or acrylic, and uses a bold and bright color palette, combining contrasting colors and shades. This touch gives his works dynamics, and the very emotions that radiate from each portrait, painted in the artist's characteristic author's manner.
By the way, Michael Shapcott traditionally shoots the whole process of painting with a camera, and the videos can be seen on the artist's website.
