Vietnamese craftswoman Diem Chau is a very creative person and is already known to our readers thanks to her embroidered dishes and miniature sculptures from toothpicks and paper. However, this is far from all that a talented craftswoman is capable of: another passion for Diem was carving sculptures from crayons.

Diem Chau carves figures of people or animals from crayons. He can even carve someone's sculpture to order, focusing on the image in the photo. And Diem's last work was a color series of 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac. The author takes 3-4 hours to create one sculpture.

"I studied folk art during the Great Depression. At that time, people had to work with whatever material they had without throwing away anything … in such conditions, a lot of unlimited creative ideas appeared," - begins his story Diem Chau. How did you get the idea to transform crayons into sculptural forms? The girl assures that this is a long story, but if you outline it in short, it all comes down to money. According to Diem, it was "unbearably difficult" for her to be creative, working with expensive materials: "All I could think about at that moment is their price." The girl decided to look for something cheaper and, having tried many different materials, settled on crayons.

According to Diem Chau, crayons are the best material she could find. "Everyone knows about them … they are beautiful, colorful … they are happy. They remind me of my childhood. They are funny, but at the same time incredibly fragile. Sometimes the sculptures accidentally break, but it seems to me that this is also an integral part of their existence."
