What is the story of the paintings of Philadelphia artist Tim Derning? About how diverse the world is and how wide the range of human emotions is, about the ability to empathize and be imbued with someone else's mood. Cheerful and melancholic paintings charge you with optimism and energy or push you into sad thoughts: a real artist can do anything. See for yourself.
Tim Durning was born and raised near Philadelphia. As a child, the boy had to take a bus to school for a whole hour, but the road passed through the picturesque hills overgrown with forest. Contemplation of a beautiful view outside the window - what could be better for the future author of wonderful drawings? Images swarmed with might and main in the head of young Tim Derning, and he was not tormented by the question of who to be: of course, an artist!
To study painting professionally, after graduating from school, the young man had to move to Philadelphia. Tim Durning lives here today, but dreams of New York - a city of great opportunities. It would be nice to get an apartment, if not in Manhattan, then in Brooklyn, put a computer there, transport a collection of shells found at sea, and launch your beloved cat Amos. Although, perhaps, the New York myth stuck in the artist's head is solely the merit of Woody Allen and his films.
Tim Durning's artwork begins with random sketches. He recalls recently read articles, seen performances and makes the first drawings. The images that the artist captures are so far only an approach to the essence of the picture. But when you manage to convey the idea of work and the mood of the characters, half the battle is done.
Tim Durning draws with a mechanical red pencil, scans the resulting drawing, and adds colors on the computer. He tries to make his color illustrations contain what the audience lacks in life - something mysterious, poetic and beautiful. For this, the artist experiments with light and shadow.
Tim Durning's new achievements are most often inspired by the work of other artists. The point, of course, is not plagiarism, but the fact that when you see an amazing picture painted by an ordinary person made of flesh and blood, it inspires and forces you to take up a pencil yourself. When Tim Durning examines other people's drawings and images, he thinks about how he would express the same thought or convey the same mood, because the more different ways to tell about the same thing, the more interesting it is.
