Wine and books are concepts that intersect with each other only in a very indirect way. However, this did not stop the Italian artist Massimo Bartolini create installation with the title Bookyard, which is both a vineyard and a library.

On the site Kulturologiya. RF, we have already repeatedly talked about unusual storage of books. Examples include the igloo library by Miler Lagos, the angel-inspired Laurentius Library or the book tower in Buenos Aires, among many other objects.

But in the fields near the Belgian city, on the territory of St. Peter's Abbey, Ghent recently appeared the Bookyard library, which is one with the vineyard.

Vineyards have adorned the suburbs of Ghent for many centuries, being one of the main sources of income for the local population. However, in recent decades, making wine has become a very unprofitable business - the market has been filled with a much cheaper product from Chile, Spain and other countries.

But not everyone wants to come to terms with the current state of affairs. After all, vineyards are the historical heritage of Ghent. To preserve them, Massimo Bartolini created the Bookyard installation.

According to the author's idea, a small library, combined with a vineyard, should attract people there: tourists and local residents. They should love the opportunity to sit in the shade of the trees, read books, and drink locally produced wine. And for all this joy, you can leave the owners a certain amount of money, which is not a pity.

However, voluntary contributions from visitors, according to Massimo Bartolini, will be only a small part of the money attracted to this vineyard thanks to Bookyard. The main goal of the installation is to draw attention to the death of winemaking in this region, to find private and state sponsors and investors who are ready to invest in the continued existence of centuries-old vineyards.
