Ban Kok Sa-Nga Village in the northeastern province of Khon Kaen, it is one of the most unusual places to visit for anyone traveling in Thailand. This small settlement is famous for the fact that its inhabitants are real snake charmers. According to the legend prevailing here, 60 years ago, a local healer had a vision that snakes would help his fellow villagers to enrich themselves. It was then that the first reptiles appeared in the houses of Thai people, and tourists began to come here to see how people get along with their poisonous wards.

Today, a snake lives next to each of the 140 houses in the village: some "coexist" with poisonous cobras, others prefer relatively safe pythons. The "snake show" continues here literally around the clock, it has become a part of everyday life. Fights of people with snakes are held right on the streets, as a rule, this causes genuine fear among visiting spectators, while for Thai people this is not difficult. Here even children know how to perfectly handle snakes, feed them and "fight" in the arena.

There is an opinion that this attraction is very dangerous and there have even been cases when spectators became victims of snakes. It is difficult to say whether this is true or not, but it is possible to assert with certainty that the locals were repeatedly bitten. For example, 72-year-old Thai Bualee Chai is proud to have suffered 21 snakebites, having been in the business for over 50 years. In snake battles, he lost several fingers, but refuses to accept the antidote after being bitten, believes that the method of its preparation is cruel to reptiles.

The Thai people are very respectful of snakes: if a snake dies, they give special donations to the temple. By the way, in the village they not only breed snakes, but also buy them willingly. Local residents are willing to pay from 5,000 ($ 160) to 6,000 ($ 200) per individual. True, no one is in a hurry to sell their "pupils", because for Thai people it is not only a source of money, but also an object of genuine love.
