It was found that reading paper books is more useful than e-books. Scientists at a university in Norway (Stavanger) have been researching the assimilation of information from paper and computer screens. And they delivered a verdict - it is better to read ordinary books than in electronic formats. At the same time, a person remembers the material more successfully, perceives the characters of the heroes of the narratives more vividly, empathizing with their actions more sensually. But with the advent of electronic books (gadgets) on the market, it became possible to store at home not paper folios, but their copies in different formats. The area in the room is drastically reduced to accommodate many books in the form of CDs, DVDs or flash drives.

Few people read books today. In the United States, in 2016, only 65% of Americans read one paper book at a time (not counting pupils in schools and students). And only half of the US population reads real newspapers. The rest are more attractive to absorb information from electronic media. But the concentration of a person's attention decreases when reading from the display. Advertising distracts, when interest in the text on the screen falls, the Internet user immediately searches for another site. When reading an e-book, the small format of the display is inconvenient, and vision from artificial light is tired. But it is necessary to turn to this method of training the brain. Reading is especially important for people approaching old age. Psychologists say that half an hour of this process a day (with a paper or e-book) prevents attention from drying out.

Television is a powerful opposition to books in terms of getting information. Screening of films and serials, news and entertainment programs, scientific and educational and others are in demand today by people as a means of recreation. The viewer forgets about books. After all, they have become very expensive. In the USA, another “buyer” comes to a store to read a book that has not yet arrived in the library, but does not purchase this thing. In Russia, too, on the shelves of books there are volumes that are expensive for an ordinary citizen. Not everyone has access to regular book purchases. It's cheaper to download them from the web in any format and then read them. You can have a huge library at home that does not take up much space.

Benefits of reading books: development of horizons, imagination, speech and mind, increasing vocabulary. But you don't have to read everything. If you like detective stories, they make you think about the motives of the actions of people - heroes of the books, improve logical thinking and memory. Fiction is attractive - it develops the imagination. A lover of the classics receives a wealth of material in the form of someone else's life experience. Reading popular science literature is useful for young people. Humorous books will cheer you up while reading. But “swallowing” a lot of text doesn't always get smarter. Do I need to indulge in loneliness. Schopenhauer thought so. The philosopher defined the harmfulness of excessive reading in receiving other people's thoughts that affect the reader's worldview. Somewhere you have to have your own opinion, educating a personality in yourself.
