Video: Paper Flower Paintings by Zhuang Hyun Yi

Zhuang Hong Yi combines the art of painting and origami in his works, because most of his paintings are based on artificial flowers folded by the author from thin rice paper.
For each of his paintings, the artist folds or cut out dozens and hundreds of paper flowers, then places them on canvas and complements the work with acrylics, ink, varnish and resin. From a distance it seems that this is an ordinary picture with an abstract pattern, but upon closer examination, it is easy to detect both the volume and the numerous bends and layers of paper.
Zhuang Hyun Yi was born in the Chinese city of Sichuan in 1962, but was educated in the Netherlands, where the artist lives today. Like many other authors, in his works he combines the cultural heritage of his people and his own life experience, already acquired under the influence of the traditions of Western Europe.
In 2008, the Chinese Department of Culture compiled a list of the 150 most influential artists in China. Zhuang Hyun Yi entered this list at number 5. The artist's works are in numerous collections around the world. Personal and group exhibitions of the author's works were successfully held in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Poland, Switzerland, and the USA.
