"My grandmother doesn't care if I'm a Satanist, goth or emo. The main thing is that I eat well" - this widespread Internet joke actually consists entirely of truth, because it is the grandmother who cares more than other relatives that the grandchildren eat well and dress warmly. Therefore, she knits them socks, sweaters and scarves, and for the long-awaited visit she will certainly cook up as many goodies as even a dozen hungry grandchildren cannot eat. Moreover, this behavior is typical for all grandmothers, regardless of nationality, skin color and country of residence. Photographer Gabriele Galimberti I was convinced of this from my own experience: his art project is dedicated to grandmother's delicacies from all over the world Delicatessen with Love … Mom is kind, but grandmother is kinder. Mom is affectionate and caring, but grandmother is a hundred times more. Mom cooks deliciously, but people of different nationalities from different countries of the world associate aromatic and mouth-watering homemade food with grandmother's cooking. And of course, each of them has her own signature dish, which she will happily cook for her beloved grandchildren, if you just hint.
In search of the signature dishes of foreign grandmothers, the photographer Gabriele Glimberti "nearly walked the entire globe", and in every country he photographed elderly ladies in the kitchen, capturing the beginning of work on the dish and the finished result. Each nation has its own culture, its own cuisine from the products traditional for this area. In addition, traditions exist within each family, taking into account family wealth and the culinary preferences of the household. Therefore, for some people, the crown delicacy of grandmother is an intricate dish made from numerous ingredients, while for others it is a simple porridge with a side dish. The main thing is that it is satisfying and enough for everyone. On the other hand, if in Alaska you can't find fruits and vegetables with fire in the daytime, and the main grandmother's dish is meat in all forms, then in Haiti and Malaysia, fruits and vegetables form the basis of home cooking. In China, it will be fish and rice, and in African countries - outlandish exotic products that can hardly be identified at first glance.
Zanzibar and Zimbabwe, Armenia and Thailand, Sweden and Morocco, Albania and Lebanon, the Philippines, Indonesia, India and dozens of other states were researched by Gabriele Galimberti to collect information for the Delicatessen with Love art project.
