Graduation time is coming, and most schoolchildren have already decided where they will go, although not everyone is still sure of their choice. However, for Stephanie Moi, this is not a problem - by the age of 17 she not only finishes school, but also receives a master's degree in mathematics.
Stephanie Moi (Stephanie Mui) became the youngest graduate of George Mason University and received her master's degree in mathematics just before her 17th birthday. Moreover, by this age she had already received a bachelor's degree - and all this without interrupting her studies at school! So for the future, Stephanie's plans are somewhat different than those of her classmates: instead of going to university, she will do research and work on her doctoral dissertation.
It sounds a little implausible, but Stephanie's abilities really go beyond the usual limits. The girl became interested in mathematics in the first grade, then she began to study geometry with her father, and by the end of the fourth grade she had already completed her school curriculum in mathematics.
After finishing fifth grade, Stephanie began taking courses at a local college, and by the age of 13 she had already received her bachelor's degree. Then the girl decided to continue her studies and entered the magistracy at the university, so that by the time she graduated from school she had already defended her thesis.
As the girl admits, when she entered the university, she was very worried that she would be treated differently because of her age. "I did not hide my age. I just did not name him. But if someone asked, I answered honestly." Although, of course, some things had to be sacrificed. So, for example, most of the hobbies of her peers passed her by, although Stephanie admits that she tries every weekend to take a break from school and spend time with friends.
Both of Stephanie's parents work as engineers, and they did not always approve of her choice. But when the girl entered courses at the university, she clearly understood that her heart belongs to mathematics. She really wanted to go further along the scientific path and do some important research.
When Stephanie is asked what the secret of her amazing success is, she simply replies - "Nothing new, just hard work." "I definitely don't consider myself a genius. You know, I haven't done anything super important yet." And this is said by a 17-year-old child who has already received his master's degree! When Stephanie is asked if mathematics is easy for her, what is it that is difficult for her? It turns out that it is difficult for Stephanie to learn English and history - because these are completely non-technical subjects.
“Usually when I see a problem, I see it as a challenge, like a puzzle that I need to put together,” Stephanie says. “You just don't have to be afraid to make mistakes. I know - you just don't have to be afraid, that's all."
Fiona Mutezi is also a genius in her own way: being from Uganda, she could neither read nor write, but at the same time she easily beat anyone at chess, and in the end, it was chess completely changed the girl's life.
