From 1971 to 1989 22 episodes of detective film "Connoisseurs lead the investigation", which was so popular with viewers that actors in everyday life were called by the names of their on-screen characters. On the advice of Znamensky, Tomina and Kibrit did correct some of the imperfections of the system. But the triumphant period for some actors turned into fatal consequences …
The initiator of the creation of a series of TV plays about police officers was the Minister of Internal Affairs of the USSR Nikolai Shchelokov. According to his idea, this was supposed to contribute to the improvement of the image of the police, and the prevention of crimes, and the conduct of explanatory work among the population. In parallel, Shchelokov was engaged in the implementation of reforms in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the purpose of which was to reduce the crime rate and increase the prestige of the Soviet militia. At the same time, it was important to create on the screen a comprehensible and believable image of an intelligent policeman, which would arouse sympathy among the audience. The actors were so convincing and charming in the images they created that they immediately earned popular love and popularity.
The script was written by the Lavrovs' spouses, who had been researching the problem of crime prevention for a long time, besides, Alexander Lavrov had worked for many years in the investigative department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and had a good command of the material. The plot was often based on genuine criminal cases.
The results of this work were quite unexpected. So, for example, after the release of the series "Podpaski with cucumber", which dealt with how a foreigner tried to take El Greco's painting from the USSR abroad, the Council of Ministers finally adopted a resolution that toughened the rules for exporting art treasures from the country. And after the release of the series "From the Life of Fruits", the Ministry of Finance made changes to the procedure for maintaining documentation at the country's vegetable depots, in which Znamensky pointed out the problems in the movie.
Viewers who are so accustomed to Znamensky, Tomina and Kibrit often identified the actors with their characters. Georgy Martynyuk admitted that on the street he was always addressed "Pal Palych", and the cashiers, without looking at his passport, gave him railway tickets and air tickets to the name of Znamensky. The consultant for the first episodes of the film was Shchelokov's deputy, Lieutenant General Boris Viktorov. He brought the actors for real interrogations and inquiries several times. This practice had to be stopped, as soon even the criminals recognized Znamensky, Tomina and Kibrit and declared that they would only talk with “experts”.
Leonid Kanevsky and Georgy Martynyuk, after the roles of Tomina and Znamensky, could no longer go on the stage of the Theater on Malaya Bronnaya - the audience simply did not perceive them in other images. Once, when they had a chance to play criminals, laughter arose in the hall - the ideal policemen in prison uniform looked comical. Even the traffic cops called Kanevsky Tomin at the meeting and saluted him.
All three actors received sacks of letters - not with declarations of love, but with requests for help in investigating pending cases. The cycle editor Emilia Kashirnikova recalls: “There were bags of letters at my desk. Reading many of them was incredibly difficult: parents asked to find out why their only son died in the army, who shot him because of his nationality; … the mother proved the innocence of her son - a student accused of murder, and so on. I lost my sleep sending these appeals to various authorities: to the prosecutor's office, to the investigating authorities, to various ministries. Once a woman approached Kanevsky in the theater with a request to sort out a tangled case. He advised her a good lawyer who helped her.
The role of Zinaida Kibrit for the actress Elsa Lezhdey turned into a real tragedy. This film became both her triumph and a curse at the same time - no one else imagined her in any other way. Proposals from directors stopped coming, and soon Lezhdey was left without work. After the death of her husband in 1992, she withdrawn into herself and stopped appearing in public. In recent years, the actress was seriously ill and on June 12, 2001, she passed away.
This film also closed the doors to big cinema for Georgy Martynyuk, after the "Experts" he almost did not act in films, he had to work in advertising. Probably the most successful was the acting career of Leonid Kanevsky: since 2006, he has been the regular host of the documentary series "The Investigation was conducted …" and plays in the theater.
On the screen, the performer of the role of Kibrit was strict and restrained, but in reality, passions often raged in her soul: love twists and turns in the life of actress Elsa Lezhdey
