Georgian singer Nani Bregvadze is known and loved to this day. In Soviet times, her popularity knew no bounds. A stately beauty with a bright accent and strong voice has always attracted attention. Men were ready to worship her, but she was always strict and unapproachable. She gratefully accepted signs of attention from fans, but never allowed them to overstep the boundaries of what was permitted. People's rumor married her to Vakhtang Kikabidze, but a completely different man was waiting for her at home. She married him twice, but as a result, she was left alone.
Mother's daughter
Nani has always been an obedient mother's daughter. Olga Alexandrovna was a strict and at the same time very loving and caring mother. She taught her daughter to music, she organized her life and studies, she was her first critic.
When Nani was still a very young girl, her mother gathered her daughter's peers and older guys in the house. They were all from good families. Merab Mamaladze also came to them. But he diligently kept his distance, watching how others were drawn to her. The girl liked Merab, but she saw in him only a friend.
Gradually Merab took a special position among her friends. He gently pushed all the girl's boyfriends aside, he himself met her after classes, accompanied her home, tried to please with small gifts.
Mom strongly advised to be nicer to the young man. Nani had no intention of getting married, but her mother's word was always law for her. Olga Alexandrovna convinced her daughter: a guy from a good family, it is imperative to get married, create a normal family.
When Merab's parents came to the house, the girl rushed to dad for advice. But the father supported his wife, and Nani sent for an answer to her. The girl obeyed and agreed with Merab, although she did not feel strong feelings for him either at that moment or after.
Olga Alexandrovna, agreeing to marry her daughter, took a promise from her future son-in-law: never forbid her to sing. True, once he did not keep his word.
Submissive wife
The young couple initially lived with their husband's parents. Now she had to travel to classes across the city. When Nani found out that her mother was crying at night from longing for her beloved daughter, she persuaded Merab to move to her.
Olga Alexandrovna has become indispensable for a young family. She tirelessly created the conditions for her daughter's studies, prepared delicious meals. When Eka was born, she took all the trouble of caring for the baby. Most of all, Nani Bregvadze's mother wanted to see her daughter's vocal skills grow.
Merab, on the other hand, began to be jealous of his wife on the sly. She has always been in the company of men. In the ensemble "Orera", which included Nani, she was the only girl. True, for young people she was her boyfriend, she was even called by the male name Shaliko.
Merab was very decent and restrained, she could not even suspect him of jealousy. When he suddenly burst into the hotel in the middle of the night, where the ensemble was spending the night, he simply explained: he was bored. Nani believed him, sincerely considering such visits normal for a loving spouse.
But once he nevertheless put forward an ultimatum to her: either he or her ensemble. Nani obeyed again. For the sake of preserving the family, she was ready to leave her singing career. Fortunately, the leader of the ensemble persuaded Merab to let his wife go to the only performance. After him, the husband went up to the singer and said: "You must sing!"
But they could not keep the family together. Nani was tired of endless scandals and nagging over trifles. After a while, they parted. The singer breathed a sigh of relief.
When trouble comes
But before Nani Georgievna had time to enjoy her freedom, the news of her husband's arrest arrived. Merab Grigorievich tried to go into business and put his signature on some dubious documents. He was sentenced to 8 years in prison and sent to serve time in Estonia. Nani was sincerely worried about the fate of her ex-husband. She understood that he would not survive in a strange and cold Estonia.
Nani Bregvadze went to see Shevardnadze himself and secured her husband's transfer to a Georgian colony. After her release, the husband came to her, asked for forgiveness for the wrongs inflicted, tried to establish normal relationships.
The price of fame
She saw a completely different person: intelligent, calm, reasonable. And I fell in love with him. At first, happiness seemed cloudless. He went on tour with her, did yoga, was just the perfect man.
However, problems soon returned to the family. Merab Grigorievich did not work, he only dreamed of large incomes, gradually became addicted to drinking, again became jealous of his wife and throw up scandals for her. They parted again, this time forever. She wanted respect, understanding and trust, but it was them that she lacked at home.
They fell in love with her, they gave her bouquets in armfuls. She knew what love was. But she could not find her happiness. She was afraid all the time: she would again have to choose between singing and family.
Nevertheless, Nani Bregvadze considers herself a happy person. She is still loved and recognized on the streets, she has a wonderful daughter and wonderful grandchildren. The only thing missing is a loved one nearby.
Not many managed to see them together on stage. But this Georgian quartet is a real miracle.
