Video: 3D paper sculptures of animals and birds, striking in the accuracy of details

An artist from Canada (Calvin Nicholls) has been creating original volumetric sculptures of animals for several decades from office paper soaked in a special alkaline solution (which allows animalistic figures to maintain their shape for a long time). The realism of his work simply amazes with the incredibly precise elaboration of even the smallest details. That is why his work has scattered all over the world, filling book pages, private collections, university shelves and advertising brochures.
The creation of one such animalistic sculpture generally takes from four weeks to two years. Before starting to create the figurine, Calvin carefully studies the animals in order to do it. In order to convey the musculoskeletal framework as accurately as possible from an anatomical point of view in his works. After that, a special drawing is created, thanks to which individual parts and fragments are born, neatly cut with a scalpel or tool knives. Then, gradually, all the details are collected into a single whole, finally forming a full-fledged 3D animal. According to the author, he prefers to use exclusively white paper, as it perfectly emphasizes texture, shape and depth, which gives the same volume.
Self-taught sculptor Martin Debenham creates surprising realism. In the arsenal of his works there are charming girls, seahorses, trees and much more.
