Video: Sculptures of birds and animals from broken CDs. Original artwork by Sean Avery

Australian sculptor Sean Avery still buys CDs in stores, and in bulk, in large quantities. Why does he prefer them to flash drives and external HDDs? Sean is a creative person, and creative people are weird. The sculptor not only buys discs, but also breaks them into small pieces to then turn the fragments into figurines of birds, animals and insects. Sleight of hand and no fraud - and now pieces of shiny multi-colored discs are no longer garbage, but bright feathers of a cockatoo, mockingbird, hummingbird, or fluffy fur of a bear, possum, mouse … a lot of glue. This is how his amazing sculptures are born, in which there are not only pieces of disks, but also other remains of computer equipment.
On his website, Sean Avery writes that he calls his work "sustainable art" because what he creates can stand on the table on its own, although not all works are made from broken discs. For some, the artist uses old hard drives and other junk he might find in the junk in the server room. In addition to sculptures, Sean is fond of drawing. More precisely, by drawing illustrations for children's books, which he also writes himself. These are picture books, where the main emphasis is on the drawing, and the text only accompanies the image. Something like a comic book for toddlers. The first book by the artist-writer is called All Monkeys Love Bananas and will be released in March 2012.
All his work, both three- and two-dimensional, Sean Avery stores on the DeviantArt website, where you can see not only a selection of sculptures from CDs, but also get acquainted with the author's illustrated books.

3D paper sculptures of animals and birds, striking in the accuracy of details
Canadian artist Calvin Nicholls has been creating original volumetric sculptures of animals from office paper soaked in a special alkaline solution for several decades (which allows animalistic figures to retain their shape for a long time). The realism of his work simply amazes with the incredibly precise elaboration of even the smallest details. That is why his work scattered all over the world, filling book pages, private collections, university shelves
People and animals, or people-animals. Shocking sculptures by Kate Clark
Healthy as a bull, fat as a hippopotamus, stupid as a ram, dirty as a pig, stubborn as a donkey … as well as possible confirm the fact that we have not gone so far from the animals. At least in habits and behavior. And sometimes in a way of life, it is not for nothing that one who works at night is called an owl, and an early bird a lark … In sculptural installations am
Animals and birds from pixel cubes. 8-bit sculptures by Shawn Smith
Today, real life is so closely connected with virtual life, and the tentacles of Internet technologies have spread so wide and penetrated so deep that it seems as if everything in the world consists of pixels. This opinion is shared by the Texas sculptor Shawn Smith, who either jokingly or in all seriousness says: "We believe that we see nature, although in reality these are just pixel images." This view of things left its mark on his work: we
Broken and melted porcelain. Broken Things by Livia Marin
What do people usually do with broken dishes? Of course, they throw it away: do not store it on the shelves, from time to time crying over the untimely departed grandmother's cup or the service presented for a wedding, housewarming or for another, no less solemn occasion. There is probably only one person who, nevertheless, prefers not to part with the pieces dear to his heart. This is the Chilean artist Livia Marin, who created an absolutely stunning art project using
