Many round-shaped houses have been built in the world, but Guangzhou-Yuan is the most incredible and unique. It is the tallest round building on Earth. The height of the giant donut house is 138 meters, and the diameter of its "hole" is 48 meters. In Chinese, this skyscraper is called Guangzhou-Yuan, which translates simply: "Ring of Guangzhou."

The building was erected seven years ago in China by a team of specialists led by the architect of the Milan bureau AM Project Joseph di Pasquale.

Guangzhou Yuan stands on the banks of the Pearl River, and if you look at it from afar, it seems that this huge wheel is rolling along the coast. It looks especially impressive in the dark, when the round skyscraper is illuminated.

Together with its reflection in the water, the ring-shaped building forms a figure eight, and this is not an accident. The architect specially designed it in such a way that it looked like a sign of infinity, because the Chinese love such symbols so much, and the eight, moreover, is a lucky number for the inhabitants of the Land of the Rising Sun.

When developing the project, the architect Joseph di Pasquale wanted the building, on the one hand, to be modern, and on the other, to be in harmony with the mentality and culture of the locals. In addition to the idea of the figure eight, this project recalls an important Chinese artifact - the ancient jade disc Bi. Such items were quite common in ancient China. There are various versions about their initial significance for the inhabitants of the Land of the Rising Sun, but it is known for sure that the presence of a jade disc in a person in ancient times indicated the high moral qualities of the owner and his high status.

Despite the fact that officially this round house is not considered a skyscraper (the height of the building does not reach the 150 meters required for this status), it is still accepted to call it that. And they also say about him "House-bagel", "House-ring" and "House-donut". And, of course, "House-wheel" and "House-disk".

The skyscraper (after all, we will call it that) has 33 floors. The building houses the head office of the Hong Da Xing Ye Group chemical company and the Guangdong Plastic Trading Exchange, which occupies 2.2 thousand square meters and is located directly under the opening of the circular building. There are also many offices, a huge shopping center, and, of course, an expensive hotel on the upper floors.

The main facades of the building are glass. Copper is used as a facing material. The side fronts are also made of glass (vertical glazed rectangles). The entrance parts of the building are interspersed with the recessed parts, which gives the round house an interesting heterogeneous structure: it seems as if it is fluted, and this makes the round skyscraper even more like a patterned jade disk.

In Russia, of course, so far there are no such skyscrapers, but there are other round-shaped buildings. We suggest reading about how round houses appeared in Moscow and whether it is convenient to live in them.
