The sculptures by Carole Epp can hardly be called beautiful figurines: a little girl has no eyes, a boy is crucified on a golden McDonald's arch, an anthropomorphic rabbit holds a human head under his arm … But the author did not even think about creating cute graceful trinkets that can be put on mantelpiece. Her little characters suffer, embodying the stresses, sorrows and problems of the modern world.
“I have always firmly believed that art can influence public opinion, can serve as a space for dialogue and a source of resistance to injustice in the world,” says Karol Epp. Therefore, her sculptures are a means of communication with a very eloquent name "A Collection of Small Miseries", that is, "A collection of little suffering." In his works, Karol Epp raises "aspects of childhood and nostalgia, kitsch and stereotypes, and most importantly, consumption." Wars, terrorism, poverty, hunger, environmental degradation - according to the author, the sources of these destructive phenomena should be sought in individual consumption, in the habits and moral qualities of each individual person.

Karol Epp is a Canadian sculptor and writer. She graduated from the Australian National University (Canberra) with a master's degree in ceramics. The sculptural activity of the author is divided into two directions: work on collectible figurines and functional objects. Karol Epp's work has been shown at exhibitions in Canada, Scotland, Australia and the United States.
