Ran Hwang's installations from afar are somewhat reminiscent of paintings painted directly on the wall using original techniques. In fact, what our heroine does looks more like the work of a tailor, not an artist, because Ren's main tools are buttons, threads and needles.

The artist fixes thousands of needles on a vertical surface (usually a wall, ceiling or window frame), on which she then string buttons of the required colors and sizes. The result is images of Buddha, Virgin Mary, birds or flowering trees.

It should also be noted that the buttons are not simply put on needles. They are strung with different depths - in some places adhering to the surface and remaining on the tip of the needle in others - as a result of which a three-dimensional image is created, the play of light and shadow becomes possible. The number of buttons on a particular needle is also not the same, and the distance between the needles is also different. When the work is finished, Ren Wong, if he deems it necessary, takes the strings and connects certain places of the image, thus personifying a huge number of connections and communications in the modern world.

“My huge wall installations are very time consuming and require monotonous manual labor,” says Ren Wong. "This is one of the forms of meditation practice that helps me find inner peace and harmony." The artist hopes that the contemplation of her works will awaken in the audience a sense of meditative peace and introspection, as well as the emotions that she herself experienced in the process of working on this or that work.
