"Yes, it's just Rainbow, but not town! "- say amazed tourists when they find themselves in one of the quarters of Taichung in Taiwan. Who would have thought that once these were ordinary inconspicuous slums! So bright and amazing, like a rainbow, an ordinary city block was made by a single artist.
In the late 1940s and early 1950s, a barracks settlement was built in Taichung for military settlers. As you can imagine, this military town is not far from the barracks in terms of the degree of architectural grace. But it was a man named Huan Yung-Fu, an 86-year-old veteran who painted the neighborhood all the colors of the rainbow, that changed everything.
Colorful city covered with portraits of screen stars, images of birds, people and animals, and simply lurid patterns. So in a few years the houses and streets of the quarter have become not at all gray.
There is a university not far from this village on the outskirts of the city. Local students were amazed at the bright painting on the walls; they spread the news of the wonderful old man Huan Yung-Fu everywhere, and then the TV crew arrived. And behind them - tourists from Malaysia, Korea, Japan. It's interesting for everyone to look at rainbow city!
The old artist did not even expect such recognition, and was very happy. Now he works a little with a brush every day, and his large multi-colored "painting" has become one of the main attractions of Taichung.
