Antony Gormley is one of the most prominent sculptors of our time. He has more than 100 solo exhibitions and many awards, including the titles of the Turner Prize, England's most prestigious award for contemporary art, and Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire. His works can be seen both in collections and just in the middle of the city. If you still don't know anything about this person, then it's time to fix it.
The main object in the art of Anthony Gormley is the human body, its transformations, position in time and space. The sculptor describes his work as "an attempt to materialize the other side of life, where we all are." For many of his sculptors, the author used his own body as a kind of template, calling it the only part of the material world in which he lives.
One of the most famous works of the sculptor is "Field". It is an installation of thousands of clay figurines, hand-made by the local population of a particular area. The installation was shown in various variations on five continents from 1989 to 2003. The last time the exhibition was held in China was a room filled with 200 thousand clay figurines.
Another equally famous work by Anthony Gormley is the sculpture "The Angel of the North" in the British Gateshead. It is a steel figure with a height of 20 meters and a wingspan of 54 meters. The sculpture stands on a high hill, and its wings are slightly tilted forward - thus the author wanted to create the effect of a "hug" effect.
The installation "Another Place" was installed in 2006 on the coast of Liverpool. It represents 100 cast-iron human figures 189 cm high and weighing 650 kg. The installation, stretching for three kilometers, turned this part of the coast into a tourist attraction.
"The field of attraction" ("Domian field") - an installation consisting of 200 sculptures, made from casts of residents of one British town aged 2 to 85 years.
"Event Horizon" - 31 bronze male sculptures installed on famous buildings in London.
Finally, "Waste man" - a giant sculpture of 30 tons of various household rubbish, installed in 2006. It took 6 weeks to create it, after which the figure was set on fire - and it burned to the ground in 32 minutes.
Anthony Gormley was born in 1950 in London. More information about the author and many of his other projects can be seen here.

Exhibition "Free: Contemporary Art After Frida Kahlo" ("Unbound: Contemporary Art After Frida Kahlo")
Frida Kahlo is one of the first names that come to mind when it comes to women who changed the history of visual arts. The fearless surrealist has acquired an almost mythical status. At times, the amazing story of her life even overshadows the glory of her paintings, although, of course, they cannot be separated
British animal holocaust: before the war, the British euthanized more than 750 thousand pets
Evacuating children, darkening windows and killing cats - this is how Great Britain prepared for World War II. In 1939, the government called for getting rid of pets so as not to condemn these unfortunate creatures to torture. The British responded to the call, and in the first week alone they put to sleep more than 750 thousand pets. A monument in Hyde Park with animal bas-reliefs and the inscription: "They had no choice" reminds of a terrible tragedy today
Otherworldly. Angels and fairies in the work of Anthony Santella (Anthony Santella)
About his work, the author says: "In my work you can see many nuances characteristic of medieval religious painting, British art of the 19th century, fantasy art, as well as modern art, such as book illustrations and drawings for comics." But the artist does not in any way position himself as an adherent of any of these movements - it is simply convenient for him to combine all this in order to create his own unusual paintings, which could be called
Contemporary art from Konstantin Zolotarev. Contemporary Christian art or icon painting style
The icon painting style created for the depiction of saints and Christ is aimed at displaying a different reality. Therefore, in the icon, the portrait resemblance of a saint to a person who actually lived once is not in principle, since it reflects a transformed person who is in the upper world. But after all, the saints once lived on earth, they were like us, they ate and drank and had practically the same problems as modern man
