The familiar lines of this popular 80s song describe the history of the platonic romance to some extent. Sophia Loren and Nikas Safronov. But for several decades he has been painting magnificent portraits of Sophie, and in return she gives the artist charming smiles, allows herself to idolize and love … as a friend.
The Italian actress Sophia Loren and the Russian artist are linked by many years of sincere friendship. First meeting at a party in Italy in 1988, Nikas told her the story of a boy who, as a child, mistook the famous actress for Madonna. And how, having found her photo on the pages of an old magazine, the boy realized that this woman was not an angel, but a living person. And that since then he is in love with her and worships. The actress, of course, was impressed and very moved by this story.
And after three years, having met at a film festival in Moscow, she presented the artist with her autographed photo, and Safronov presented her with an old medallion that he inherited from his mother with instructions to convey to a woman whom he would truly love. Nikas decided that he would never meet more beautiful and worthy of a woman than Sophie.
Impressed by that landmark meeting in Italy, Nikas paints the first portrait of his Muse, where she is depicted against a vaguely blurred background. This canvas became the impetus for the creation of a new direction in the artist's work, a new technique - dream vision, for which Nikas Safronov subsequently got into the Guinness Book.
Over the years of their sincere friendship, the artist, according to the latest data, wrote about nineteen pictorial portraits of the actress in different techniques. And depicted on each of them, the Muse of the painter: unique, attractive and charming.
Recently Nikas Safronov opened an exhibition dedicated to his 60th anniversary, which was attended by a lot of eminent guests. And his old muse, 82-year-old Italian Sophia Loren, came to Moscow to cut the red ribbon together with the artist.
She is already over eighty, but she still makes men's hearts skip a beat, and still catches the enthusiastic glances of her fans.
And more recently, Sophie and Nikas decided to open an exhibition of portraits of the actress. Indeed, in her personal collection there are about 200 paintings with her image by famous artists: Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali and, of course, an old good friend Nikasa Safronova.
Personal exhibitions always become a bright event in the cultural life of any country, gathering hundreds of thousands of spectators. Well, an exposition of portraits of the most famous Italian actress and singer Sophia Loren will undoubtedly be a grandiose event on a global scale.
