International Theater Olympiad opens in St. Petersburg

The opening of the International Theater Olympiad is scheduled for June 15. The city center of St. Petersburg was chosen as the place of the grand opening. Everything will start with a festival of street theaters, but in the Year of the Theater such an Olympiad will be held throughout the entire Russian Federation.

The organizing committee told reporters that they decided to turn the opening ceremony of the Olympics into a major theatrical holiday. At this event, they plan to embody the motto of the Russian theater Olympiad, which sounds like this: “Create by uniting”.

Vladimir Medinsky, head of the Ministry of Culture, has been invited to the opening ceremony of this important theatrical event. Valery Fokin, People's Artist of the Russian Federation and Artistic Director of the Alexandrinsky Theater, represents Russia in the organizing committee of the Olympiad.

On the opening day, it was decided to hold all the events next to the Alexandrinsky Theater on Ostrovsky Square. Nikolai Roshchin, the chief director of the Alexandrinsky Theater, took part in organizing this solemn event, and this time he acted as a stage director. He had to work together with Alexei Tregubov, an artist. The organizers decided that it would be very interesting and unusual to involve the spectators who will come to the ceremony in everything that happens.

Before the opening of the Olympiad in the St. Petersburg metro, one could see the scenes of the Odyssee performance, which was staged based on the famous work of Homer "The Odyssey". Such scenes were shown by the Dutch theater Gajes. On the opening day on Ostrovsky Square, such a performance will be shown in full. A play called Malaya will also be shown here, which tells about fantastic creatures-travelers. This performance will be shown to the audience by another Dutch theater called Close-Act.

The opening will be attended by the theater from France Transe Express, which will show a performance titled "The Mobile Man". The peculiarity of the production is that the musicians will be raised to a great height, where they will have to perform complex tricks. The theme of flights has decided to reveal in its production Firebirds and the Titanick theater from Germany. The performance will be accompanied by live music performed by the ensemble Fanfare S. N. O. B. from France.

During the opening of the theatrical Olympiad, three groups from Russia will perform with their works. The play called "Flower Ship" will be shown by the Fiery People Theater from Moscow. The Moscow theater "Sketches in Space" decided to show the production "The Lost Caravan". The production with the title "Wandering Puppets of Mr. Pejo" will be shown by the "Decadence" theater from St. Petersburg.
