From January 25 to February 5, an exhibition of contemporary Japanese photography "Crown of the Earth" can be seen in the Moscow Gallery of Classical Photography.

The Society of Photographers of Japan, which today has 1,700 members, was formed in 1952. The Moscow exhibition will feature the works of seven photographers who were winners of this annual competition held by this society in the category "Promising Young Photographers" from 2007 to 2009. All of them have been engaged in photography for about 20 years, participated in international competitions and have been awarded various prizes more than once.

The exhibition will be opened by Ken CHITANO, winner of the annual Paris Photo exhibition, with the conceptual cycle "Our Faces", which is dedicated to rethinking the processes of world globalization. Kitano has collected in a single print many portraits of representatives of social groups, clubs, societies and professions, compresses them and copies them layer by layer on top of each other.

The exhibition also features works by other leaders of the Japanese photography school: Takayuki MAEKAWA, Naoki ISHIKAWA, Yasuhiro OGAWA, Kazutoshi YOSIMURA, Toshiro YASHIRO and Shintaro SATO. All these photographers are well known not only in Japan but also abroad. “Through the work of seven Japanese photographers who work in completely different genres and styles, we show the originality of this country's photography and strive to go beyond the boundaries of the traditional perception of the land of the rising sun,” said Art Director of the Gallery Yaroslav Amelin.

The exhibition "Crown of the Earth" demonstrates the unique phenomenon of Japanese contemporary photography, which is a mirror of the trends that are inherent in the generation of photographers in the art space of the 1990s of the last century.
