The legend of ancient Hyperborea is one of the most controversial and intriguing alternatives of history. Whether it is a fairy tale or a fairy tale, one can argue, but Vsevolod Ivanov believes in it with all his heart. Strange Gods, herds of domesticated mammoths and pagan rites of Vedic Russia - this is how the artist sees the mythical culture of our northern ancestors.
There are many variants of the story of a highly developed civilization in the High North. Some place Hyperborea in Siberia, others at the North Pole, and still others in Greenland. Without taking an active part in the geographic disputes, Vsevolod Ivanov simply draws pictures from the life of the legendary region. The series of paintings "Vedic Rus" is the only thing to which he devotes all his time and talent as an artist. Vivid and detailed scenes take you to a completely real world created by his imagination.
Over the past 10 years, Ivanov has created dozens of works reflecting the life, culture and religious customs of the Hyperboreans. Strictly speaking, Ivanov's paintings are fantastic (what is it worth one Baba Yaga in a reactive mortar!), But for many people, these works have become the embodiment of their beliefs. Now pictures from the Vedic Rus series are often used as illustrations of the life of the ancient Aryans, and sometimes even as proof of the legend about the northern ancestral home of mankind and the Golden Age. This is another example when art begins to live its own life - as without the participation of the author, the works of the founding father of the fantasy genre, writer J. R. R. Tolkien (look at the hobbit dwelling of Steve and Christina Michaels, for example), and lives in contemporary art by Alice Lewis Carroll.
Now Vsevolod Ivanov is 61 years old, and he actively continues to work on the series. Each painting takes several months of hard work, but after completing one work, he immediately starts a new work. The gallery of the artist's paintings can be found here.
