The culture and customs of the Land of the Rising Sun are of interest to many people from all over the world, and they all express their love and passion for Japan in different ways - someone is studying oriental martial arts, someone is imbued with the ritual of the tea ceremony, someone is preparing delicious Japanese cuisine, and someone draws pictures on the Japanese theme.
The passion of Zoe Lacchei, a young Italian artist, inspired her in 2008 to start a new creative project dedicated to geisha (Geisha Project). The Geisha series by Zoe Lacchei is an eclectic mix of beautiful and slightly dark artwork featuring women adorned with animals and bones. Now the artist is extremely popular in Italy, she is known in the USA and Japan. Zoe Lacchei has published several works and carried out many exhibitions. Her unique style is a synthesis of several traditional techniques and materials.
In 2007, she created 9 new works for the Geisha Project. In March 2008, her geisha works were exhibited at the Dorothy Circus Gallery in Rome and were a huge success. From July 2008 to January 2009, some of the Geisha Project paintings are exhibited at the IO Gallery in the United States.
Zoe Lacchei grew up in a small town near Rome, in a quiet place, far from the chaos of the city, which contributed to the formation of her shy and introverted character, making her different from others. After leaving school, instead of continuing her further studies, the Italian focused on studying the issues that interested her most, in particular, Japanese culture. Japan has always been one of her main interests. She just adores Japan, with its contradictions and ornateness.
The goal of the project called "Geisha Project" is to raise the curtain and show us the hidden world of geisha and disappear into it. The culture of the inhabitants of the Land of the Rising Sun is closely related to the past and traditions that have been established for hundreds of years, and are closely guarded from the penetration of technological progress. Being a geisha means living in an eternal shady and austere world, devoting your existence to art. The artist made an attempt to show us these inconspicuous creatures in contact with the darkness that wants to absorb them.

Geisha - girls who entertain clients with dancing, singing and skillful conversation - are a real phenomenon of Japanese culture, which has haunted Europeans for many centuries.
