German photographers Cenci Goepel and Jens Warnecke travel the world, turning day into night, painting with light and capturing their photographs on camera. They create pictures of movement and light surrounded by darkness.
To create photographic compositions called "Lightmarks", German photographers experiment with different light sources: from electric torches to LEDs and fire, presenting their drawings to us in unusual landscapes.
Cenci Goepel was born in 1972. She worked as an artist and photographer in Germany, Norway and Korea. Since 2006 she has been working on the Lightmark project with filmmaker and photographer Jens Warnecke. Jens Warnecke was born in 1969 in Hamburg, Germany. Studied philosophy and modern literature at the University of Hamburg.
The direction of the creative process of photographers is called "freezelight". But unlike other freezelighters, who draw complex light shapes on the streets and in studios, the German couple creates in the bosom of nature. Cenci Goepel and Jens Warnecke love to spend time in nature and travel a lot. This is how they met, started and continue to work together.
Cenci Goepel and Jens Warnecke love both the process and the result. They are confident that art and culture make the world a better place, so they diligently do their job.
Each of their images is marked with precise geographic coordinates. This is not because the photographers lack imagination and could not come up with an interesting name. The location where they took the photo is a very important component of their creative process. By naming the exact location, they invite people to visit this place at night and admire its real beauty.
Cenci Goepel and Jens Warnecke travel about three times a year. Sometimes they just travel around the country looking for a beautiful landscape to shoot, like they did in Argentina, where they spent 3 months. But there are times when photographers know exactly where to go and where to draw light pictures. Their list of places to visit is long.
