40 years ago, director Konstantin Bromberg made a film that still remains one of the best in the genre of adventure children's cinema. The main characters - schoolboy Sergei Syroezhkin and his robot double Elektronika - were played by twin brothers Yuri and Vladimir Torsuevs, who became in the 1980s. idols of teenagers. Today, "The Adventures of Electronics" is hard to imagine without these curly blonde characters, but initially these roles were supposed to go to completely different actors, and the Torsuevs themselves then looked quite different from their characters on the screens …

When director Konstantin Bromberg began filming a film based on the stories of Yevgeny Veltistov, he did not even know how difficult it would be for him to find young actors for the main roles. According to the plot, a cybernetic engineer created a robot Elektronik, which outwardly did not differ in any way from an ordinary boy, and when working on its appearance, he used a photograph of a sixth grader, Sergei Syroezhkin, printed on the cover of the magazine. Therefore, the boys had to be like two drops of water.

In order for the outward resemblance of the characters to be absolute, as suggested in the stories, the director initially planned to shoot the same boy in both roles, and Dmitry Zamulin was the main contender at the first stage. But later Bromberg abandoned this venture and decided to look for the role of Syroezhkin and Electronics for twin brothers. At the beginning of 1979, the Odessa Film Studio literally announced an all-Union wanted list, and the main characters were eventually chosen from several hundred pairs of twins who came from different cities of the USSR.

The search went on for a very long time, because the director set out to find not just two very similar brothers, but also those teenagers who would be relaxed in front of the cameras and had musical talents, and this turned out to be a difficult task.

Brothers Yuri and Vladimir Torsuevs turned out to be the 368th twins who auditioned for these roles. They got to the set thanks to the head teacher of the Moscow school number 23, where they studied. Once she came to their class during a lesson and said sternly: "" Since the brothers were not distinguished by their diligent behavior (Yura was even registered with the police), they did not expect anything good from this visit. But instead of thrashing, they received invitations to photo tests - they were then sent to all schools in search of twins.

Moscow schoolchildren did not fit in age - Sergei Syroezhkin, according to the script, was a sixth grader, and the brothers were older. But they had a lot of other advantages - they played the guitar, sang, danced and drove a moped. True, their vocal abilities were not useful to them later - Elena Kamburova and Elena Shuenkova sang for them.

We can say that their fate was decided by a lucky chance and … unfavorable weather conditions - otherwise the Torsuevs could simply get lost in a huge number of applicants for the roles of Syroezhkin and Elektronik. Director's assistant Yulia Konstantinova said: "".

Although they came to the shooting with dark hair, on the set they were turned into blondes, and this became one of the most unpleasant tests for the Torsuevs. Later they admitted: "".

Due to the fact that boys who were older than originally expected were approved for the main roles, they had to look for a new bully Gusev - the chosen actor turned out to be on their shoulder, and Gusev had to be a big guy. Just before the very beginning of filming, Yulia Konstantinova found a suitable teenager in an Odessa boarding school - Vasya Modest, whose behavior did not correspond to his last name.

Another hero, to a large extent, ensured the success of the film was the dog Ressi, who was "played" by the Airedale Terrier Chingiz. The dog turned out to be not only incredibly charming and intelligent, but also possessing phenomenal intuition. The director said: "".

In the year of the premiere, the film was repeated three times on Central Television. Immediately after the release of "The Adventures of Electronics", the Torsuev brothers were incredibly popular. Every day they received dozens of letters, schoolgirls painted the courtyard and the entrance of their house with declarations of love, waited for young stars on the streets and overcame them with calls. The brothers' parents even had to change their home phone number.

But when the Torsuevs grew up a little and cut off their white curls, they simply ceased to be recognized. With new roles, too, were unlucky, and they, like many other actors in this film, did not appear on the screens soon: How did the fate of Syroezhkin's classmates develop?.
