A chess player is primarily a strategist and intellectual, and victory depends only on his skill and logic. But how much more interesting the game will become if you lead into battle not a faceless army of figures, but decide the fate of great Empires! Chess pieces of great commanders, formidable warriors and siege towers - this is how art casting from Ukrainian sculptors looks like.

Enthusiasts of military history carry out reconstructions, choosing the surroundings of the corresponding era and personally rushing into the theatrical battle. But there is an alternative - chess. Peaceful and intellectual analogue of real war. This game was highly valued by kings and generals for the opportunity to hone logic and strategic thinking, which will then come in handy on the battlefield and in political intrigue. However, the battles on the chessboard lack realism - it is hard to feel like a commander if you have a vague idea of what army is fighting under your command (although try to play, for example, Rachel Whiteread's everyday chess or Ji Lee's three-dimensional chess). Therefore, to give the game aesthetics and excitement, at all times created unique sets reconstructing real events of world history.

To create their works, Yegor and Nikita Zigurda, together with their father Alexei, use the technique of artistic casting, combining silver and bronze with marble, jasper and mahogany. The sculptors have created several thematic sets. On the board "Battle of Empires" the fate of Western civilization is decided - Emperor Charles V is at the head of the army of the Holy Roman Empire, and Sultan Suleiman I is opposed to him. The sculptors have not forgotten our past - the board "Battle of Kulikovo" with the figures of Dmitry Donskoy and Khan Mamai will allow, with the necessary skill, to reshape history.

In addition to creating precious chess pieces, brothers Yegor and Nikita work with a variety of materials - artistic casting from bronze and silver, sculptures from jasper, sandstone, limestone. Both of them are less than 30 years old, but the team has collaborated in the style of "land art" and several thematic installations. Their original sculptures dedicated to the history of Kievan Rus, the Russian Empire and Ukraine have been repeatedly exhibited at exhibitions.
