History " Forgotten Garden of Heligen"(" Lost Gardens of Heligan "is its official name), as befits a respectable British garden, begins three hundred years ago. In the middle of the 18th century, the noble Cornish family Tremaine decided to surround their family estate with a green sea of exotic plants. here, in the very south-west of England, the climate is mild, humid and warm, and even plants from distant countries easily take root here.

The four Squires of Tremayne, who lived in the 19th century, made the main contribution to the design of the garden - they gave Heligan a majestic and at the same time exotic look characteristic of the Victorian era. The garden gradually expanded to an area of 81 hectares, and by the beginning of the First World War, 22 gardeners were looking after it! But many of them, as well as the Tremayne fortune, were taken by the war. Heligan was deserted and forgotten for a long time.

But in the mid-1990s, they found it reopened. The overgrown garden looked so wonderful that there were people who wanted to revive it. The main work was done by the garden architect Tim Smith; under his care forgotten gardens Heligan were completely restored (he wrote a whole book about how it was).

Now the Heligan Botanical Garden is famous not only in Great Britain, but also far beyond its borders. It has many locations: Alpine Ravine, Garden-behind-the-Wall, Vineyards, Melon Yard, Crystal Grotto, Italian Garden, Museum of Horticulture … One of the most interesting parts is the "jungle": it is hard to believe that such a forest can exist in Europe. The attraction of the garden is two plant sculptures: the Virgin of the Mud and the Head of the Giant.
