Arriving at a crime scene, the valiant police usually look for fingerprints in order to identify the intruder. In our case, there is no need to look for him, because everyone knows who "inherited" here and there with their fingers: an American artist Kevin Van Aelst … The huge fingerprints left by Kevin on the kitchen table, on the carpet, on the grass in the park - and in the most unexpected places - is a fun art project called Fingerprints. Woolen threads, corn sticks, flour and sugar, cassette tape and even mustard are the few materials that make up those art prints.
What is it, why is it, who is it for? For entertainment, obviously, because artists are not alien to a sense of humor, the desire to have fun and have fun. Is there something philosophical, instructive, or deep idea in this project? Hardly, though … No wonder Kevin Van Elst once received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Cornell University.
Today Kevin lives and works in New Haven, Connecticut, where he taught photography at the University of the Arts at Hartford, and now works at the educational art center of the University of Quinnipiac. The artist's creative work can be seen on his website.
